Facebook Login Help: A Facebook Login Guide

Facebook Login Help Basics

How do I get a Facebook account?

You register for a free account on the Facebook home page.  Fill out the form below the login area and follow the steps to fill in your profile and find friends.

You will need a valid email address. Don’t use an email that you share with others, just yours.  See how to create a new Facebook account.

How do I login to Facebook?

The login area is above the registration form on the Facebook welcome page.  For your login name, use either your email address, your Facebook username or a mobile phone number you’ve listed in your account.  Enter your current password.  Check Keep me logged in if you want to stay logged in and you do not share the computer with anyone else.  See a Facebook welcome home page tutorial.

Facebook Login Help for Login Problems

Why can’t I log into Facebook?

There are times when you enter what you think are the correct login credentials, yet you still can’t get in to Facebook. Some common reasons for login failures are:

  • Mistyping the password or username/email
  • Typing an old password after you change it
  • Turning on the CAPS lock
  • Facebook is blocked
  • Internet connection problems

How do I log in to Facebook if it’s blocked at school etc.?

The best and safest thing you can do is to go a secure place where Facebook isn’t blocked–such as your home computer.  This is the most ethical course of action, especially if Facebook is blocked in your school or workplace.

You can also unblock Facebook if you have admin privileges on the computer, or if you simply know how to disable the website blocker or if you know the password.

Some people use proxy servers as well, but there’s the danger of your account information getting stolen or misused if you use an untrustworthy server.  Besides, admins can block proxies too.

One way to ethically get around Facebook blocking is to increase your Facebook email notifications so that your closest friends’ posts are sent to your email address.

Why do I see someone else when I try to log into Facebook?  How do I sign n to my account?

If two people share the same computer, one may sometimes forget to log out of their Facebook account.  Or else, they may opt to stay logged in.  When the other user attempts to use Facebook, they may find the last person’s session is still active.

To log in as a different user:

  1. Click the arrow next to Home on the Facebook toolbar.
  2. Click Log Out.
  3. On the Facebook welcome page, uncheck Keep me logged in if is checked.
  4. Enter your user details and click Log In.

Facebook Login Help for Security

How do I know if someone else logs in to my Facebook account?

If you enable Login Notifications at Account Settings > Security > Login Notifications, you will be prompted to identify the device you sign in from the first time you use it; you will also receive alerts when an unidentified device or computer logs in to your account.

You can also monitor your most recent Facebook logins with Active Sessions found in Account Settings > Security > Active Sessions.  There, you can end any open session that you want.

Facebook Login Help for Email Address

How do I know what is my Facebook email address?

First, distinguish between your Facebook email address, which is “your Facebook URL @facebook.com,” and any email address that you’ve registered with your account.  You can add/remove email addresses and change the primary email as well.

To view your email addresses in Facebook, head to Account Settings > General > Email.

To view your Facebook email address (yourname@facebook.com), go to Account Settings > General > Username.  Your assigned email address bears your Facebook username/URL.  You can claim a username; once you do, you can change it only once.

    • Click the arrow after “Home” at the top right of the page. Click “Log Out.” That should log the browser out of your son’s account. When you get to the home page, sign in with your credentials. And uncheck “Keep me logged in.”

You can also use a different browser from what your son is using, like IE9 instead of Firefox.
